The Buffalo National River is one of the most beautiful rivers in the country and we are blessed to have access to such a wonderful place.
Group floats are planned for Saturday and Sunday. The cost of canoeing is set by the vendor and is $43 per boat per day, which includes a shuttle fee. We have reserved 40 canoes and 5 kayaks for Saturday and 20 canoes and 5 kayaks for Sunday, so register early to hold your boat. We can get more boats if you register early. The deadline for registration is Friday May 15. If you bring your own boat of any kind, the shuttle fee is $25.
We will leave for the float trip on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the Highway 14 Bridge with takeout at 4:00 p.m. at Rush. On Sunday, we will catch a shuttle at 9:00 or 9:30 from the Highway 14 bridge and head to Upper Maumee, where our float begins. Takeout is back at the Highway 14 Bridge (where we leave our cars), so we can take our time returning.
We typically stop multiple times during the floats for swimming, playing, visiting, and eating. If you need a canoe partner, indicate this on your registration form -- we will try to match you with someone (no guarantees). Life jackets are provided by the canoe rental place. Bring your own if you prefer. Talk to the organizers or others who have done this before if you are worried about handling young children on this outing. They have encouraging stories to tell.
There are no glass bottles or alcohol allowed on the river -- and the rangers patrol on this busy holiday and they do issue tickets. This is state law - and if anyone has a beverage on a boat, it must be tied ( attached) to the person to whom it belongs.
Questions should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to have a Forum or information presentation in May to discuss planning, safety, and equipment.
